We are more than beasts

Well....I thought that I would post this thought after a discussion that I had with Angie today. There was a point in the socratic circle yesterday when I had wanted to share this thought from the book, but there were so many times yesterday that I wanted to share, but all of you were keeping the ball in play and it is much more about you guys playing...I always find it funny when the oldtimers want to take over the ballgame as in when they come to scrimmage.....It reminds me of Meet the Fockers when he hits the ball down on the sister-in-law....ANYWAY!!!....

All of this to say that there is a great quote in the book in chapter 55 around part 3. "Lee said, 'Help him, Adam--help him. Give him a chance. Let him be free. That's all a man has over the beasts. Free him! Bless him!"

What exactly is it that we humans have over the beasts? Is it that we can bless and be blessed? Does Steinbeck present some characters as beasts--like Cathy? Are there levels of humans and beasts? Sei la....hehhehehehehhe....just some random thoughts....
